Jon Dowling/Counter-Print

It often takes being without something and then having it returned for you to appreciate its beauty. I grew up in Sussex, fled to pursue a career as a designer and then moved around, trying to find a place to call ‘home’. Since the birth of our son, we’ve returned to establish our publishing house, producing books on symbology. For me, if I were to capture this county in a visual symbol, it would involve the half tile hung houses that line its streets and in which I grew up. Vernacular, familiar, comforting, personal… home.
